Tinga Tinga images are created with bicycle
enamel paint on muslin fabric. They are brightly painted pictures of exaggerated people and animals. Edward Said Tinga Tinga (1937-1972) was born in Mozambique but moved to Tanzania. He
started painting when he was working on building sites. During breaks he painted whimsical animals and humans.
Gradually more and more attention was paid to Tinga Tinga's paintings in Dar es Salaam and today it is a popular art form
in Tanzania.
